Quite recently, the smog levels in Beijing increased to the highest point that it's been at for a while. As a result, schools shut down, half the cars were kept off the road, and the majority of the factories shut down.
The scary part is, this stuff isn't new to us at all. This situation just goes to show the severity of pollution problems and how our ignorance had so far been our biggest weakness. As Al Gore often says, we are often like sitting frogs in a pot of boiling water. We don't realize how bad the situation is getting, and we keep ignore it, but nothing ever gets done to help. When it's too late, we finally start to realize that we should have done something earlier and we ignored the facts standing right in front of us.
We must spread awareness and actually pull ourselves out of these situations before it's actually too late. We mustn't repeat the same stupid mistakes over and over again, but rather, we need to make a change. We need to coax the fragile environment back to its health instead of destroying it, and we need everyone to recognize this as a serious event.
Perhaps the most important though, is the change that we as the human race need to go through. We'll need everyone's support and efforts to undergo the change for a better world.
